Abstract
Dans le parc du Bic, sur la côte sud de l’estuaire maritime du Saint-Laurent, le tombolo reliant les caps Caribou et Enragé est une forme littorale complexe édifiée en deux étapes au cours de l’Holocène. La séquence grossière (rudite) est, en effet, composée de deux unités d’âge différent : la plus jeune correspond au stade de Mitis daté à environ 2 ka, l’autre, à la Transgression laurentienne, datée de 5,5 à 4 ka. D’environ 4,5 m d’épaisseur, la séquence grossière repose directement sur un dépôt intertidal de limon sableux daté de 6,6 à 6 ka, lui-même sus-jacent à un dépôt de petit gravier sableux (plages ?) recouvrant l’argile de la Mer de Goldthwait datée à plus de 10 ka. Ceci implique que le niveau marin relatif, à l’époque, était semblable ou légèrement plus bas que le niveau actuel. Ces nouvelles données corroborent les événements géologiques retracés antérieurement à Saint-Fabien-sur-Mer et dans d’autres localités de la rive sud du Saint-Laurent estuarien.
