CASUÍSTICA ONCOLÓGICA EN CANINOS DEL LABORATORIO DE PATOLOGÍA VETERINARIA DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE NARIÑO

En los ultimos anos, se ha incrementado la prevalencia e incidencia de cancer en animales pequenos, debido en parte, a un aumento en la poblacion de mascotas y a su vez, al mayor contacto de estas con factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de esta enfermedad, hasta constituirse en una de las principales causas de muerte. Por lo tanto, es importante determinar el comportamiento epidemiologico de esta patologia. El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la casuistica de neoplasias de caninos remitidas al Laboratorio de Patologia Veterinaria de la Universidad de Narino, en el periodo comprendido entre el ano 2007 y el ano 2012. Para lograr este objetivo, se realizo un estudio descriptivo de tipo cualitativo en el area de catedra y servicio de patologia del programa de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad de Narino en el municipio de Pasto, Colombia. Se recolecto informacion de los casos a partir de los reportes de las biopsias remitidas entre los anos 2007 y 2012. Durante los anos evaluados se presentaron un total de 207 casos; el 54,1% de los tumores se presentaron en hembras y el 45,9% en machos, de los cuales, el 54,1% fueron tumores malignos, el 36,3% tumores benignos y en el 9,6% no fue posible determinar el comportamiento. La edad promedio de presentacion de las neoplasias fue de 7,9 ± 3,2 anos, dentro de los cuales el 69,1% eran perros viejos, el 23,7% adultos y el 7,2% animales jovenes. Las razas mas afectadas fueron Caniche, Labrador, Boxer y perros Mestizos. Las neoplasias de mayor presentacion fueron tumores malignos (28,5%), derivados de celulas epiteliales de diferente localizacion anatomica, seguido de tumores de celulas redondas como mastocitomas (9,2%) y tumores venereos transmisibles. El estudio permitio establecer el comportamiento epidemiologico y las caracteristicas de casuistica oncologica presentada en el Laboratorio durante el periodo del estudio. The objective of the present study was to determine the neoplasia casuistry of canines remitted to the Laboratory of Veterinary Pathology, University of Narino, during the period from 2007 to 2012. This objective was accomplished through a descriptive study of qualitative type in the class area and the Pathology Service in the Program of Veterinary Medicine, University of Narino, in the municipality of Pasto – Colombia. Information of the cases was gathered from reports of biopsies remitted between the years 2007 and 2012. During the evaluated years, 207 cases were presented; 54.1% of the tumors occurred in females and 45.9% in males, from which, 51.7% was malignant tumors, 36.2% benign tumors and in the 12.1%, it was not possible to determine the behavior. The average age of neoplasia occurrence was 7.9±3.2 years old within which 69.1% was old dogs, 23.7% adults and 7.2 young animals. The most affected breeds were Caniche, Labrador, Boxer and Crossbreed dogs. The neoplasms of the greatest incidence were malignant tumors (28.5%) derived from epithelial cells of different anatomical localization, followed by tumors of round cells like mastocitomas (9.2%), and transferable venereal tumors (8.7%). The study revealed the epidemic behavior and the characteristics of the oncological casuistry presented in the laboratory during the period of the study.
