Abstract
Le mot allemand knapp, tantôt adjectif, tantôt adverbe, est un marqueur de l’étroitesse qui ne possède pas d’équivalent direct en français. Cette contribution s’efforce d’établir une typologie des emplois de « knapp + verbe » prenant en compte la variété des sens produits par cette association. L’accent est mis sur la relation que « knapp + verbe » entretient avec l’expression de la proximité d’une limite, d’une frontière, d’un seuil critique. La réflexion théorique s’appuie sur la notion de frontière perçue discursivement comme possédant une certaine épaisseur. Le travail empirique est consacré à l’analyse d’un panel d’exemples empruntés à des bases de données électroniques. L’analyse du corpus permet de dégager des corrélations entre l’aspect interne (Aktionsart) des verbes associés à knapp et la manière dont le rapport à la frontière s’actualise en contexte.
