Lors de la dernire campagne lectorale fdrale, les mdias ont fait grand cas des discussions qu'auraient eues le premier ministre et le prsident de la Banque de dveloppement du Canada re l at ivement une demande de prt au bnfice de l'Au b e rge Gra n d -M re, p ro p rit d'un ami du premier ministre. La conduite de Monsieur Chrtien, qui en a indign plus d'un, a fait l'objet d'une enqute par le conseiller en thique du go u ve rnement fdral. Ce dernier a jug que le premier ministre n'avait enfreint aucun rglement fdral ce sujet et l'a, par consquent, entirement blanchi des soupons qui pesaient sur lui.
