Abstract
Cet article concerne les pratiques «non professionnelles » de soutien à des enfants vivant dans des familles monoparentales, sous la forme de jumelages entre un adulte bénévole et un enfant. L'objectif du jumelage est de pallier l'absence d'un lien parent-enfant en proposant un «parent social » reconnu compétent et légitimé par un organisme charitable. Cette pratique informelle (être un ou une amie de l'enfant) est l'objet d'une formalisation : l'on crée et l'on met en œuvre des règles et valeurs qui définissent la parentalité en puisant dans des savoirs professionnels, des idéologies et des pratiques sociales ambiantes. Cette structuration est analysée à travers deux activités promues par l'association des Grands Frères et Grandes Sœurs du Québec : l'évaluation des candidatures et le jumelage.
