Abstract
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.), one of the marginal vegetable crops of Nepal, is grown in different altitudes (during October-December in terai; August-November in mid-hills and March-May in the high hills). This crop is produced for green leaf at a subsistence and semi-commercial scale in the rural and peri-urban areas respectively. Farmers often produce fenugreek under marginal and variable production environments and it is resilient to the climatic stresses such as drought. Farmers prefer to cultivate this crop in order to diversify on-farm production, adapt to climatic stresses and diversify food menu. It has also potential to promote as organic vegetable, provided market for such product is developed. Research efforts are, therefore, required to locate the commercial growing agro-climatic belts, breed better cultivars equipped to thrive climatic stresses and develop site specific agronomic practices.
