Abstract
Inspirées d’une approche institutionnaliste, deux études empiriques s’intéressent à l’effet du financement étatique sur les associations, en examinant les changements que ces dernières subissent après quelques années. Les changements sont principalement d’ordre organisationnel (touchant des aspects relatifs aux activités de production) et concernent peu la dimension institutionnelle (les règles régissant la structure du pouvoir). Le financement étatique fait partie d’un ensemble de phénomènes qui influencent le développement des associations, avec la dynamique sociale de la communauté, le degré d’institutionnalisation des associations, leurs capacités stratégiques et les liens d’usage des services. Il produit davantage d’effets lorsqu’il est fortement normé, occupe une part importante dans le budget des associations, se situe sur le long terme et appuie des activités inédites pour l’association.
