La télédétection spatiale au Québec connaît ses débuts dans les années 1970. Elle va se développer grâce à trois principaux intervenants : le gouvernement, le secteur privé et les universités québécoises. Elle est appliquée dans plusieurs domaines dont l’étude du milieu urbain. L’objectif de cet article est de présenter les défis de la télédétection urbaine au Québec dans les années 1970 et 1980. Nous allons d’abord survoler l’histoire de la télédétection au Québec ainsi que les défis auxquels elle a dû faire face. Par la suite, nous abordons l’application de la télédétection urbaine au Québec avec présentation d’exemples d’études urbaines.
