Abstract
Ce texte présente les résultats préliminaires d’une recherche effectuée sur le terrain dans le domaine de l’immigration équatorienne à Montréal. Les sources utilisées consistent aussi bien en données quantitatives qu’en récits de vie de quinze répondants arrivés à Montréal entre 1966 et 2003. Cet article expose d’abord les aspirations à court et à long termes qui ont poussé les Équatoriens à émigrer – le Canada qu’ils avaient « imaginé » et ce qu’ils pensaient trouver dans ce pays d’accueil – et présente ensuite leur évaluation du processus d’installation et de leur parcours pré- et postmigratoire.
