Abstract
En este artículo, me propongo esbozar los contornos de un imaginario de la violencia entre hombres y mujeres del campo y de los barrios populares, sobre la base de 33 entrevistas efectuadas en Bolivia en los veranos del 2005 y 2006. No considero «la violencia» como un universal, sino como un conjunto construido de representaciones relacionadas con prácticas ampliamente difundidas dentro de una sociedad. Insistiré en los puntos comunes y las diferencias entre hombres y mujeres, por una parte, y entre moradores del campo y de la ciudad, por otra. Una característica común de todos, es la impresión de vivir en un mundo lleno de peligros. Las mujeres dan un peso más considerable a los peligros de orden sobrenatural, así como a los daños causados por la violencia simbólica : el «chisme». Los habitantes de las zonas urbanas pobres insisten más sobre la violencia delincuente, y toman medidas frente a ello. Ambos sexos mencionan la violencia de género dentro de la familia, pero son las mujeres quienes citan experiencias vividas al respecto. En cuanto a las causas de la violencia, en la ciudad, ambos sexos parecen estar incorporando a su imaginario elementos del discurso académico sobre violencia estructural.
