Abstract
La qualification professionnelle, lien immédiat entre l'école et le travail, a été l'un des objets privilégiés des réformes de l'éducation au Québec. Rarement cependant, a-t-on tenté d'évaluer de façon globale son impact sur l'accès à l'univers des emplois et, plus généralement, sur la carrière des travailleurs. Cet article en présente précisément une analyse empirique pour le Québec. Après avoir discuté de la notion polymorphe qu'est la qualification professionnelle pour en dégager une mesure empirique universelle, les auteurs procèdent à une analyse en deux volets. En premier lieu, ils tentent d'évaluer, chiffres à l'appui, les thèses opposées de la qualification et de la déquali-ficatiori des emplois. En deuxième lieu est présenté un modèle de cheminement de la causalité liant le:s variables scolaires (formation générale et formation professionnelle) à la qualification exercée dans l'emploi, au statut socio-économique et au revenu.
