La antropologia ha sido pionera en la utilizacion de la fotografia v el cine documental en la investigacion social.Desde los registros fotograficos de Franz Boas con los Kwakiutl, en el norte de Vancouver (Canada) en 1897, y el documental sobre la Cmubridgc Anthropological Expcciitimi al Estrecho de Torres, dirigida por A. Haddon en 1899, hasta nuestros dias, la produccion audiovisual ha luchado por su reconocimiento disciplinario.En este articulo seran abordadas ciertas modalidades v transformaciones de la representacion visual, articulando paradigmas cientificos y procesos sociales.Se reflexionara sobre las formas en que los productos audiovisuales informan del objeto de la investigacion, el rol de las técnicas irto y cinematograficas al interior del proceso de investigacion y los factores socio-poliricos que inciden.
