A study was conducted to investigate the high frequency acoustic backscatter response from non-nucleated biological specimens. The study used sea urchin oocytes to prepare sparse suspension in artificial seawater at room temperature. A VisualSonics VS40B ultrasound imaging devices was used during the study for data acquisition with transducers. The study also carried out a visual inspection to remove the abnormal patterns due to presence of more oocyte. An absence of detectable shear waves propagation inside the oocyte was observed during the study due to absence of the sharp resonance peaks. The study also found that the oocytes behave like fluid scatters at high ultrasonic frequencies. The high frequency ultrasound backscatter from sea urchin oocytes can be used for fluid sphere scattering models.
