Abstract
En 1999, le gouvernement québécois légalisait la pratique sage-femme. Après trente années de lutte, on offrait aux femmes québécoises le choix de vivre l’expérience de la grossesse et de l’accouchement de façon différente de celle offerte par la médecine traditionnelle. Dans ce contexte de changements institutionnels majeurs, quelles représentations de la sage-femme la presse québécoise a-t-elle véhiculées? C’est à cette question que le présent article veut répondre. Pour ce faire, le contenu d’une soixantaine d’articles parus entre 1989 et 2002 a été analysé. L’analyse a fait ressortir que, en dépit de la persistance de certaines oppositions, les représentations des sages-femmes sont généralement très positives.
