Où en est la recherche en études théâtrales ? Dans le bilan que nous proposons, il s’agit de mettre en lumière les développements successifs d’un champ d’activité relativement nouveau au Québec en prenant en compte des questions relatives aux délimitations de l’objet d’analyse qu’est le théâtre et en dressant le paysage des savoirs spécifiques à ce domaine de recherche qui ont été élaborés sur une période de 30 ans. Cette réflexion s’intéresse également aux médiations et aux réseaux par lesquels ce savoir circule et contribue, le cas échéant, à modifier la compréhension qui se dégage des pratiques scéniques et dramaturgiques et de leur évolution dans le contexte particulier du Québec. Partant du cas de L’Annuaire théâtral, seule revue savante dans le domaine au Québec, ce bilan n’ignore pas néanmoins le cadre international de production de la recherche théâtrale québécoise. Il en sera question largement lorsqu’il s’agira d’évaluer les retombées de la recherche, d’identifier des tendances et des voies possibles de renouveau.
