Este artigo visa precipuamente a apresentar uma discussão sobreo fenômeno da aquisição da fonologia. Apresenta três grandes focos:(a) um exame do processo da aquisição da fonologia por criançasfalantes nativas do português do Brasil (PB), com a retomada deestudos desenvolvidos no país; (b) a caracterização e a exemplificaçãodo fenômeno da aquisição da linguagem com base em unidadesda fonologia da língua: sílaba, segmento e traços; e (c) a explicitaçãodesse processo de desenvolvimento linguístico à luz de modelosteóricos da área da fonologia.
