Abstract
Chef-d’oeuvre de condensation, la scène typiquement proustienne de la lecture du Figaro est ici considérée comme un récit de rêve. Son apparente étrangeté ne fait que souligner sa cohérence avec l’ensemble de l’oeuvre de Proust, qui en devient le contenu latent. Déjà présente dans le Contre Sainte-Beuve , cette scène d’ À la recherche du temps perdu occupe une place importante dans les avant-textes de l’ouverture. Elle a souvent été réécrite avant d’être tardivement enchâssée dans Albertine disparue , cette partie instable du roman que Proust avait rayée juste avant sa mort, peut-être avec l’intention d’autres remaniements. Cette proximité du texte avec ses origines et son inachèvement fait écho à l’expérience de l’auteur en rêveur éveillé, soumis à la pulsion de mort ainsi qu’à la récapitulation de sa vie jusqu’en ses racines les plus lointaines. Lecteur de lui-même, le héros y réaffirme son identité d’écrivain en même temps qu’il sonde les facettes mystérieuses de son être. Chez Proust, l’exploration de la réalité passe par le rêve, à la fois révélateur de l’inconscient et moteur de la création.
