Abstract
This article is about the therapy of a woman who had been the participating mother in a one-year infant observation. She seemed to project aggression onto her lively six-month-old daughter. Few observers have the opportunity to understand the story behind events that occur during an observation, but four years later the mother began individual therapy with the observer. Both the patient and her mother were replacement children, and treatment revealed the transgenerational roots of her projection. The patient’s internal world carried the unmourned deaths of at least two fetuses, voids/phantoms nested within one another. The defence of disavowal used to cope with the losses was also trans-generational.
