Abstract
Cet examen des tendances récentes de la fécondité au Québec met l'accent sur les conditions concrètes dans lesquelles se réalise le désir d'enfants au Québec. Le recours à l'histoire permet d'abord d'illustrer l'ampleur des changements survenus et d'identifier quelques pistes pour en rendre compte. Trois éléments sont alors examinés tour à tour, puis dans leurs interrelations : la fécondité, le couple et le travail. La discussion des aspects politiques reliés à ces questions est volontairement reléguée à la fin, dans le but d'ancrer le débat dans une perspective la plus réaliste possible.
