Abstract

Osteoarthritis of the shoulder joint is one of the most disabling locations for osteoarthritis in the body as it can prevent work, play, activities of daily living and comfortable sleep. Shoulder arthroplasty is the third most common joint replacement. It is the most reliable and successful treatment for advanced cases of shoulder osteoarthritis. Since the inception of total shoulder arthroplasty, there have been major changes and improvements both in implant design and operative technique. Total shoulder arthroplasty can be performed using either cemented or uncemented techniques. In this chapter we will discuss the most common questions around these options and review the relevant evidence.
