Abstract
On propose ici une réflexion théorique sur l’écriture de l’histoire du cinéma, dont l’assise conceptuelle est une « archéologie du cinéma » qui se situerait à la croisée de ces deux formes indépendantes l’une de l’autre que sont l’archéologie de la modernité de Walter Benjamin et l’archéologie du savoir de Michel Foucault. L’article se consacre essentiellement à la conciliation de ces deux formes d’archéologie, à laquelle ont contribué des auteurs majeurs comme Hans Belting, Fernand Braudel et Erwin Panofsky. L’auteur montre comment les deux modèles archéologiques semblent parfois converger et conduire à une approche du cinéma qui se situerait au coeur d’un réseau de « séries de séries » (selon la formule de Foucault). Pareille observation l’invite à un retour sur la notion de « série culturelle », dont André Gaudreault a dressé les contours et renouvelé la perspective. Dans le cadre de sa réflexion sur l’écriture de l’histoire du cinéma et ses temps hétérogènes, l’auteur montre comment la notion de « série culturelle » doit être pensée dans un cadre théorique .
