Dans quelle mesure la relation métonymique entre langue " d'origine " et identité ethnique telle qu'institutionnalisée au Québec est-elle intégrée par les membres de groupes minoritaires ? Dans le cadre d'une réflexion sur la construction du lien entre langue et identité ethnique, l'auteure analyse le discours de Québécois d'ascendance italienne sur certaines de leurs pratiques linguistiques. Les données présentées révèlent quelques-unes des composantes qui peuvent sous-tendre la construction du lien entre langue et identité de même que différentes formes et significations qu'elle peut revêtir. Ces variations sur un même thème peuvent être comprises en regard de l'ordre symbolique dominant. Tout en étant une conséquence de cet ordre symbolique, elles témoignent également de sa remise en cause et d'une volonté de le redéfinir.
