Le système économique productiviste a montré ses limites : l’idée selon laquelle la croissance économique seule peut répondre aux besoins sociaux n’est plus valable. L’innovation sociale, portée par les acteurs de l’économie sociale et trop souvent considérée comme un pis-aller mobilisé uniquement en temps de crise, devient une option crédible. Les gouvernements cherchent dans les différents concepts de l’innovation sociale des réponses créatives aux enjeux sociaux et sociétaux actuels. L’Union européenne met en avant le potentiel des innovations sociales et en a fait l’un des facteurs clés de la réussite de sa Stratégie Europe 2020.
