Abstract
Dans le cadre des débats sur les fondements du lien collectif dans les sociétés démocratiques modernes, nous présentons les quatre formes possibles de ce lien et leur mutation depuis la fin de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, la consolidation des États providence durant les années 1950-1970 et l’accélération de la mondialisation économique et financière durant les années 1980-1990. Nous présentons ensuite les résultats d’une enquête qualitative menée à Montréal en 1995 à partir de la typologie du lien sociétal proposée et des questions soulevées par ses possibles transformations. L’enquête a été réalisée auprès de personnes résidant à Montréal, natives du Québec et d’ascendance canadienne-française ou émigrées au Québec de six pays différents. Les résultats de cette enquête ne confirment nullement les multiples craintes exprimées par la littérature actuelle sur la perte de lien social dans les sociétés démocratiques actuelles.
