Abstract
Résumé Cet article traite des controverses et conflits entre gestionnaires et chasseurs à propos de la bernache du Canada, Branta canadensis . En parcourant des milliers de kilomètres durant ses migrations, cette espèce agit comme un révélateur des oppositions sémantiques entre populations autochtones et chasseurs sportifs, gens des villes et paysans, admirateurs des oies et gestionnaires. Présage du changement de saison et espèce emblématique, cette oie passe du statut de fléau pléthorique qu’il faut contrôler aux États-Unis à celui d’espèce qu’il faut protéger au nord du Canada. Seule l’analyse de données biologiques et anthropologiques permet de résoudre cette complexité.
