Résumé L’objectif de cet article est double. D’une part, il s’agit de faire la synthèse des débats qui traversent le champ de l’économie financière en ce qui concerne la question de l’autosuffisance des institutions de microfinance. D’autre part, il s’agit de dépasser l’opposition traditionnelle entre ces deux conceptions en montrant qu’elles correspondent à deux phases du développement de la microfinance. La pérennité des programmes de microfinance suppose ainsi de mettre en relief les complémentarités relevées entre ces deux conceptions.
