Abstract
Cette recherche porte sur la perception qu’ont les adultes des changements survenus dans leur vie et dans la societe. Selonune methodologiemixtedelarecherche,504adultesdelaVille deQuebec ont participea cetteetude internationale. Dans le cadre de cet article, nous nous interessons a la notion de la souffrance a distance de Luc Boltanski, c’est-a-dire la souffrance des autres qui s’integre dans le soi historique des individus. L’analyse quantitative, des evenements et changements sociohistoriques marquants pour les participants, montre l’importance des evenements terroristes du 11 septembre 2001, suivis des referendums sur l’independance du Quebec. L’analyse de contenu, centree sur le vecu et la gestion des souffrances a distance, valide la portee heuristique de la classification de Boltanski.
