Abstract
Nous présentons dans ce texte les principaux résultats d'une recherche empirique sur les Programmes d'Aide aux Employés (P.A.E.) dans les entreprises québécoises. L'enquête s'est faite par entrevue auprès de 129 intervenants dans les P.A.E. L'analyse porte sur les principales composantes de la pratique d'intervention à la base de ces programmes. Elle montre qu'ils constituent une stratégie de gestion des ressources humaines qui doit son efficacité relative à la place que ces programmes occupent aux frontières de l'organisation. En même temps, ces derniers introduisent une perspective nouvelle du rapport entre l'individu et l'organisation, celle de la santé mentale au travail. Mais ils le font au prix de compromis et suivant des règles précises qui sont autant de conditions de leur maintien.
