Abstract
Le taux de prostatectomie en 1986-1987 a été calculé pour chacun des 32 territoires des départements de santé communautaire (DSC) du Québec. Sur la base des projections démographiques et des variations observées entre les DSC, le nombre de prostatectomies (intervention chirurgicale la plus fréquente chez les hommes adultes) pratiquées au Québec jusqu'en 2031 varierait énormément, selon que le taux le plus bas ou le taux le plus élevé enregistré dans un DSC serait appliqué à toute la province. Les répercussions sur la consommation de res sources sanitaires sont considérables. Ces résultats montrent que ies projections d'utilisation des services de santé doivent tenir compte autant de l'intensité d'intervention à laquelle une population est soumise que de l'évolution démographique.
