Sainte-Scholastique ne sera plus le chef-lieu Par GILLES BOILEAU, géographeSuite à cette expropriation abusive, insensée et inhumaine décrétée le 27 mars 1969 par Ottawa afin de créer un aéroport international qui n'existe pas, le petit village de Sainte-Scholastique a perdu une partie de son âme et de sa mémoire.Mais déjà, une cinquantaine d'années plus tôt, en 1922, un gouvernement de même «sensibilité politique», mais québécois cette fois, avait perturbé gravement la vie des hommes et des femmes de cette collectivité.Nous ne parlerons pas du temps des Patriotes, alors qu'en décembre 1837, les militaires de Colborne et de la reine Victoria, après avoir incendié Saint-Benoît, avaient fait une courte halte à Sainte-Scholastique, juste le temps d'y semer la terreur.Lors de l'annonce de l'expropriation des terres de Sainte-Scholastique et des alentours, en 1969, politiciens fédéraux et aménagistes patentés avaient prévu et annoncé que ce village serait rayé de la carte et qu'il n'existerait plus en 1985.Et pourtant, un peu plus de 2 000 habitants habitent toujours sur le territoire de l'ancienne paroisse, vieille de 175 ans.Mais entre les troubles de 1837 et l'expropriation de 1969 il y avait déjà eu T«Affaire du Chef-lieu».Ne sont-ce pas là quelques raisons suffisantes pour qu'on se souvienne, à l'occasion, de tous ces villages du Québec qui sont, à leur façon, les fleurs immortelles de notre histoire.
