Les journaux constituent depuis toujours une source d’information de première importance pour les parlementaires. La presse offre une réflexion critique de l’opinion publique en plus d’être un outil majeur de communication à l’égard des changements qui surviennent dans les politiques et les lois. La collecte et l’organisation de l’information destinée aux parlementaires constituent les deux volets d’un service essentiel fourni par les bibliothèques parlementaires établies ou en développement partout dans le monde. Le présent article offre un aperçu des services de presse fournis par les bibliothèques parlementaires du Canada, il décrit l’expérience de la province de l’Ontario en ce qui a trait aux services de presse électroniques et propose un certain nombre d’avenues qui doivent être examinées lors de la transition vers les services électroniques. Certaines orientations futures sont également abordées.
