Avec Mainstream, Frédéric Martel entreprend une étude de la culture globale au sein d’un monde multipolaire où chaque entité culturelle cherche à se faire une place au soleil. Près de 1250 entretiens ont été réalisés dans le cadre de cette enquête, tous par Fréderic Martel, qui aura parcouru le globe, de Tokyo à Rio, en passant par Beyrouth, Bruxelles, Jakarta et Los Angeles.
