La publicaci?n de la biograf?a del pintor cubista inventado Jusep Torres Campalans en i%8 caus? cierto desconcierto entre algunos de sus lectores. La naturaleza ficticia de la novela se oculta tras la forma biogr?fica con tal maestr?a que no resulta f?cil distinguir entre ficci?n y realidad, lo cual provoc? que no siempre se leyera la obra como creaci?n novel?stica. El texto, sin embargo, se encuentra poblado de numerosos datos, alusiones y pistas de diversa ?ndole que ponen de manifiesto la naturaleza par?dica de Jusep Torres Campalans. En efecto, esta biograf?a de artista es tambi?n la parodia de este tipo de obra que critica la creaci?n art?stica y teoriza acerca de ella. La presentaci?n formal de la novela, as? como su fuerte contenido hist?rico, hace de Jusep Torres Campalans una monograf?a de arte; la inexistencia de su protagonista, sin embargo, la convierten en parodia, una parodia que se transmite mediante la tensi?n entre verdad y mentira, realidad y ficci?n.
