Abstract
La réforme du 18 janvier 1994 délégant au secteur hospitalier la gestion des soins en prison, qui relevait auparavant de l’Administration pénitentiaire, marque l’inscription d’une logique de santé publique en milieu carcéral. Outre la délivrance de soins primaires, le législateur fixe au personnel hospitalier une mission de prévention. Orientées vers la libération et la réinsertion du détenu, les actions d’éducation pour la santé visent également à améliorer de façon marginale la vie quotidienne en détention. Pourtant, cette démarche de prévention s’apparente à certains égards à un processus de « sanitarisation » de l’institution pénitentiaire. Interroger ce phénomène à partir du point de vue des professionnels sur leur propre pratique permet de souligner les contradictions qu’ils éprouvent de façon quotidienne, sans délégitimer leur action.
