Abstract
Este trabalho tem por objetivo discutir os contos de Alice Munro, com base na obra Too much happiness, traduzido como Felicidade demais, especificamente, “Dimensões” e “Madeira”. No primeiro conto, através de uma comparação com a tragédia clássica Medeia, de Eurípedes, discute-se a escravização da mulher conectada deliberadamente a um crime que não praticou e cujas algemas estão atreladas ao marido assassino e louco. O segundo conto atém-se à forma como a autora, fascinada por locais que oferecem um mapa social da vida de pequenas cidades rurais de Ontario e BC, constrói um imaginário geográfico cujo espaço regional ganha contornos universais.
