À défaut de recherches fondamentales sérieuses en histoire sur la standardisation de sa propre discipline, la profession infirmière continue d’alimenter les clichés, renforce le sens commun et repose sur des symboles et des croyances issues du passé ainsi que sur ce qui caractérise de manière générale les carrières féminines dans notre société. Le déficit de reconnaissance scientifique, que vit la profession infirmière n’est dès lors pas trop étonnant. À l’heure de la mondialisation des connaissances, qui restent à ce jour, l’unique source d’avantages concurrentiels durables, l’historien de la discipline infirmière se pose la question sur le statut international qu’a sa discipline au sein des mondes savants.
