Abstract
In this paper, a novel printed ultra-wideband (UWB) microstrip line-fed monopole antenna is introduced. The proposed antenna is composed of a trapezoidal microstrip patch with two elliptical-shaped cuts from the radiating patch forming a bell-shaped cut. The designed antenna operates over impedance bandwidth 2.9–14GHz. It exhibits an omni-directional radiation patterns with good gain flatness over the frequency range of interest. By embedding a simple narrow U-shaped slot in the radiating microstrip patch, a notch in the frequency band of 5.0-6.0GHz is obtained. The U-shaped slot has a length of about half wavelength of the desired notched frequency. To tune the notch, only two parameters are used. The proposed antenna performance is suitable for UWB applications avoiding the interference of the existing wireless systems.
