Abstract
With newfound prospects brought on by the discovery of iron ore in the Serra dos Carajs (Carajs Range), in the south of the State of Par, the Brazilian Fedral Government undertook a series of interventions in the city of Marab, starting in 1970. Once the location of the city was deemed inadequate, as it was vulnerable to flooding from the Tocantins and Itacainas Rivers, plans were made to move it to another site, now known as Nova Marab.
