Abstract
Les études sur l'espérance de vie en santé ont presque toutes privilégié la prévalence des maladies et des incapacités physiques chroniques, sans envisager la possibilité de calculer l'espérance de vie sans démence; or, les taux de prevalence de la démence sont fortement liés à l'âge. Cet article comporte des propositions sur l'utilisation de telles mesures et s'intéresse aux progrès réalisés dans le domaine des méthodes d'identification permettant des comparaisons transnationales. Nous avons également tenté de construire une courbe théorique pour la survie sans démence basée sur des données de prevalence issues d'une méta-analyse concernant plusieurs pays.
