Résumé Le nombre annuel d’adoptions augmente relativement peu. Il était de 4 400 en 1990 et s’est stabilisé autour de 5 000 depuis 2003. Aujourd’hui, 85 % des enfants adoptés en France sont nés à l’étranger, la moitié d’entre eux étant originaires de cinq pays. Durant la même période, le nombre d’agréments délivrés chaque année a augmenté de 50 % et atteignait 8 800 en 2005. Seulement la moitié des personnes qui entreprennent des démarches pour adopter y parviennent. Le processus de sélection s’effectue à chaque étape de la procédure.
