Abstract
Single crystals of the heavy-fermion superconductor ${\mathrm{UBe}}_{13}$ doped with 3.5% Th have been studied by neutron scattering techniques. This material undergoes two superconducting transitions at ${T}_{c1}\ensuremath{\cong}0.55$ and ${T}_{c2}\ensuremath{\cong}0.40\mathrm{K}.$ Using elastic neutron scattering we found no evidence for either short- or long-range magnetic order down to temperatures of 0.15 K. Similarly, exhaustive scans at reasonably high values of the momentum transfer found no evidence of a recently predicted internal lattice rearrangement of the Be nuclei at low temperatures. However, using neutron inelastic scattering we did find weak signals with a propagation direction $\mathbf{q}=〈0.5 0.5 0〉,$ indicating antiferromagnetic fluctuations that are short range in real space, and are also short lived. These correlations disappear only above about 30 K, similar to effects found in pure ${\mathrm{UBe}}_{13}.$ They also show no variation on passing through ${T}_{c}.$
