No imaginário dos países das Américas, existem traços comuns que se manifestam na produção literária. O modo como os europeus conquistaram os territórios, a imigração dos europeus e a relação que esses estabeleceram com os autóctones são alguns dos elementos que explicam certas representações comuns. Entre essas, estão as imagens do “entre-lugar”, “entre-dois”, “duplo”, originárias do choque entre a cultura de origem (européia ou africana) e a de destino, ensejando conflitos, questionamentos e busca de respostas. Inserem-se nessa questão o romance Volkswagen Blues, de Jacques Poulin, e os romances Relato de um certo Oriente e Dois irmãos, de Milton Hatoum. É nessa perspectiva que esses romances são analisados neste trabalho. Résumé: Dans l’imaginaire des pays des Amériques, il existe des traits communs qui se manifestent dans la production littéraire. La façon dont les Européens conquirent les territoires, l’immigration et le rapport avec les autochtones sont quelques-uns des éléments qui expliquent certaines représentations communes. Parmi elles, les images de l’«entre-lieu», de l’«entre-deux» et du «double», originaires du choc entre la culture d’origine (européenne ou africaine) et la culture d’accueil, avec leurs conflits, leurs questionnements et la recherche de réponses. C’est dans cette perspective que sont analysés les romans Volkswagen Blues, de Jacques Poulin, Relato de um certo Oriente (Récit d’un certain Orient) et Dois irmãos (Deux frères), de Milton Hatoum.
