Abstract
El panorama energetico de Estados Unidos presenta serias dificultades: la mayor parte de sus fuentes de aprovisionamiento de hidrocarburos esta en el extranjero; sus reservas propias, al actual ritmo de extraccion, se agotaran en apenas diez anos; el petroleo de su principal proveedor -Canada- es cada vez mas caro y dificil de extrraer, y el de Mexico -otro exportador fundamental- registra un declive imparable. Frente a este escenario, Venenzuela, cuyas reservas petroliferas son solo superadas por las de Arabia Saudi, se ha transformado en un objetivo estrategico de primer orden para Washington. Pero el pais de Hugo Chavez esta dispuesto a utilizar al petroleo como una baza geopolitica decisiva.
