Lieux de vie et santé des populations : l’exemple du chikungunya à la Réunion

Abstract
Les lieux de vie (quartiers, jardins, maisons) ont un impact non négligeable sur la santé des populations. Un exemple en est donné par l’épidémie de chikungunya qui a sévi sur l’île de la Réunion au cours des années 2005 et 2006. Lors de cette épidémie, les Réunionnais ont dû revoir le rapport qu’ils avaient avec leur lieu de vie, notamment le jardin. Cette recherche analyse les comportements des populations face à l’épidémie : rapport à l’environnement, entretien et gestion du jardin, représentations de la maladie. Elle montre qu’il existe, malgré le fait que le chikungunya soit une maladie vectorielle transmise par un moustique, une inégalité entre les individus face à la maladie selon certaines variables sociodémographiques. En outre, les lieux de vie ne sont pas sans influence sur la santé des populations, autant par les relations qu’entretiennent les individus avec ces lieux que par l’organisation propre de ces espaces de proximité.
