Abstract
Alors que le vieillissement de la population européenne est une tendance lourde qui devrait encore s’accentuer dans les années à venir, l’Union européenne entend soutenir ses États membres face à cette évolution. À partir de projections statistiques, elle a pu tracer les grands traits de l’évolution de la population européenne d’ici à 2060 et les implications qui y sont liées, notamment en termes économiques et budgétaires pour les États-providence européens. La Commission européenne a tenté de développer une politique européenne du vieillissement à travers deux notions, le vieillissement actif et la solidarité entre les générations. Mais, en favorisant davantage le premier concept, de nature économique, elle ne parvient pas totalement à formuler une réponse globale et relègue à l’arrière-plan la dimension sociale de cette approche.
