Abstract
Les fusions municipales viennent de modifier considérablement la mosaïque territoriale des provinces de l’est du Canada, en particulier dans les agglomérations urbaines: baisse du nombre de municipalités, forte diminution du nombre d’élus locaux et reclassement des villes sur l’échiquier canadien et québécois. Cette réforme a redéfini les petites agglomérations qui le plus souvent maintenant ne forment plus qu’une seule municipalité, tandis que les villes-centres de Toronto, Montréal et Québec, en fusionnant avec plusieurs villes de banlieue, ont pris une place plus grande les appelant à jouer un rôle plus important au sein de leur agglomération.
