Abstract
Mexico vive una espiral de violencia alimentada por el crimen organizado, la respuesta militarista implementada desde el Estado y la penetracion delictiva de las instituciones publicas. El articulo da cuenta de este fenomeno y analiza dos respuestas: la reaccion de la sociedad, que se organiza para enfrentar el problema aunque sin apoyo de las autoridades; y las solicitudes de asilo politico, que en algunos casos son consecuencia del acoso que sufren quienes resisten el aumento de la violencia e impactan en las relaciones diplomaticas, en particular con Estados Unidos y Canada. Solo un cambio de estrategia, que excluya la militarizacion de la seguridad, junto con un compromiso trilateral con participacion de la sociedad civil, puede modificar esta preocupante situacion.
