Este artigo apresenta os resultados de minha pesquisa de doutoradoi que teve como objetivo compreender como alguns bailarinos-criadores se distinguem das práticas dominantes em dança contemporânea. Através de três estudos de caso, eu observei, acompanhei e analisei a prática artística de três bailarinos-criadores: Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood, Lin Snelling e Pamela Newellii. Estes artistas independentes se organizam em diferentes coletivos dos quais resultam criações pontuais. Algumas destas criações foram observadas por este estudo com o propósito de identificar certas práticas que se apresentam como um vetor alternativo frente as práticas dominantes em dança contemporânea. As práticas dominantes deste estudo foram identificadas a partir de um quadro teórico constituído por diversos autores que alimentam uma visão critica de arte e de dança contemporânea. i Este estudo faz parte a minha tese de doutorado “Les pratiques du danseur-créateur vis-à-vis des pratiques dominantes en danse contemporaine : trois études de cas”, defendida em janeiro de 2010 no Programa de Doutorado Études et Pratiques des Arts na Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). ii Eu os observei em seus processos de criação e em seus espetáculos durante o outono-inverno 2006-2007 em Montreal nos espaços de difusão alternativos, lugares reconhecidos no sub-campo de produção restrita em dança contemporânea. Os espetáculos foram The Sunday Project, Perfoming Book, Chalk, R.A.F.T. e Hark.
