Abstract
Cet article revient sur la catégorisation comme « migration retour » du phénomène migratoire qui mène au Japon des Brésiliens d’ascendance japonaise, dits Nikkei ou Nikkeijin, flux qui s’est accru de façon significative depuis l’adoption par le Japon en 1990 d’un statut de résidence préférentiel pour les descendants de citoyens japonais. Ignorant les réalités de la pratique administrative et la subjectivité des migrants, cette catégorisation ne rend compte que de la perspective de l’état d’accueil. Parce que le « retour » qui obsède la communauté brésilienne du Japon est d’abord un retour au Brésil, le séjour au Japon n’est pas perçu comme venant clore la migration. Au contraire, il n’est parfois que la première étape d’un projet migratoire qui doit mener en Australie, au Canada ou en Europe. En d’autres termes, le séjour au Japon et la certitude de pouvoir occuper un poste non qualifié dans des usines japonaises en manque chronique de main-d’œuvre, permettent à certains d’accumuler les ressources nécessaires à d’autres projets migratoires. En somme, la loi japonaise de « retour », en tant qu’elle offre la sécurité d’un emploi au Japon, rend possible une diversité de pratiques de « détour ».
