Abstract
Une étude descriptive des caractéristiques socio-économiques de 80 professionnel(le)s de la danse au Québec effectuée en 1987 amène quelques esquisses de réponses à quatre questions fondamentales. (1) La passion comme concept fondateur du "travail de vocation" expliquerait les motivations des individus à choisir une carrière aux conditions aussi précaires, qui échappe aux concepts habituels de la sociologie des professions, du travail et des occupations. (2) Elle permettrait aussi de comprendre comment la danse comme forme de travail salarié n'a pas consenti les avantages habituels d'un tel travail. (3) Le goût de la danse demeure un goût essentiellement féminin mais il semble que cela change avec de nouvelles représentations du corps; la passion de la danse chez plusieurs jeunes originant d'un milieu social totalement réfractaire à l'esthétisme du corps, véhiculé par cette profession, interroge les liens entre les producteurs et consommateurs d'un bien culturel. (4) Finalement, la sociologie devrait corriger des lacunes fondamentales en intégrant le corps et la passion comme véritables objets d'analyse sociologique.
